Market Report : Single-use cameras bring considerable business to minilabs. The cameras consist of a plastic body with a 35mm film roll (or APS cartridge) inside. In order to extract the film for developing the camera needs to be opened by separating the plastic housing apart.

Traditionally this was being done with a knife / blade / screwdriver and the process would often result in injuries to the lab personnel due to a slipped tool.

Market Need : to develop a safe and efficient solution to opening single-use cameras.

Client : Liberty Photo Products is one of the largest suppliers to minilabs across the United States

Requirement : Liberty approached Hari Singh & Sons with the objective of making prototypes of a camera opener that would:

• enable opening of single-use cameras without and danger of injury to the user
• be able to open different brands of single-use cameras.

The design of the camera opener consists of stainless-steel blades placed at different positions on a heavy metal base.
